Teacher, Church School (Science)

About the role

The Church seeks a teacher for its church schools in Samoa (no local requirement), a career professional position reporting to the school Principal, Vice Principal or Head of Department. The role helps youth deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, prepares educated servants of the Lord, and teaches academic subjects and church principles and doctrine. Only members of the Church worthy of a temple recommend may be employed.

Key responsibilities

• Teach assigned subjects and church doctrine, following the principles of Teaching in the Savior's Way
• Establish classroom expectations and assess and grade student learning
• Use computer software to track student information, attendance and grades
• Contribute to school plans such as budgets, inventories, facilities and curriculum
• Work with school leadership, faculty, parents and the community, and build strong relationships with students and parents
• Take part in regular training, performance reviews and professional development, and occasionally lead programs or activities, including after-hours ones
• Align with the direction of the Church Board of Education and Seminaries and Institutes (S&I) Leadership

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree, teaching certificate or license, or equivalent; four years of teaching experience (graduate teachers or those with less experience may be considered)
• Proficiency in English, oral and written
• Ability to communicate accurately with students and occasionally move around inside the classroom
• Preferred: understanding of how to support students with disabilities and qualifications in a science-related discipline
