Accountant (Fixed-term)

About the role

The Church is seeking an entry-level professional accountant for a fixed-term position in Samoa (no local). The role supports the Church's religious mission by safeguarding donated funds through accounting and internal controls, under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders. It is an area accountant position covering a variety of settings within the Church.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger and sub-ledger records for accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and correcting adjustments.
• Review and process invoices, payables and significant financial transactions in line with policy.
• Assist with cash receipts, receivables processing and related documentation.
• Support banking, taxation, regulatory filings and compliance activities.
• Maintain financial records according to statutory and organizational requirements.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required profile

• 4 years of related experience, or progress toward or completion of a relevant post-secondary degree or industry-recognized certification.
• Legal right to work in Samoa.
• Preferred: fluency in another language, prior related work experience, and CPA, CMA, CFE or CIA certification.

Required skills

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and of fundamental accounting and bookkeeping methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and automated accounting and reporting software; preferred use of Church accounting systems.
• Detail-oriented, able to work in teams and solve problems.
