Civil Structural Engineer – Dam Design & Supervision

About the role

The expert will oversee the technical aspects of dam design and support construction supervision to ensure structural integrity throughout the project lifecycle. This position reports to the project management team and works closely with contractors and local authorities in Samoa.

Key responsibilities

• Review civil structure drawings and design documents produced by contractors for quality, conformity and compliance.
• Advise on necessary adjustments to contractor designs and coordinate with the IAs.
• Assist the MWTI in preparing operation and maintenance strategy documents from a civil engineering perspective.
• Establish and maintain a quality‑assurance system for civil works.
• Supervise civil works during the operation phase of the AMDP MWTI and ensure adherence to the project schedule.
• Record events causing delays and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure safety and structural integrity of the dam during operation and conduct skill‑transfer programs for local personnel.
• Maintain document management systems for operation and maintenance reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of experience reviewing detailed dam designs.
• Registration as a Chartered or Professional Engineer with an internationally recognised institution and, by Samoan law, as a chartered member of the local IPES.
