Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Quality Control Engineer

About the role

The RCC Quality Control Engineer will ensure that the contractor’s quality control processes are fit for purpose for the supply and placement of roller‑compacted concrete (RCC) and that daily quality control is undertaken as required for continuous RCC placement. The role involves overseeing QC systems, laboratory infrastructure, and field testing throughout the project.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure that the quality control systems, processes and laboratory infrastructure are appropriate for continuous RCC batching, delivery, placement, compaction and surface preparation.
• Verify that the design‑and‑build contractor’s quality control personnel perform their duties as expected for an RCC dam.
• Provide quality assurance during construction, including field observation, testing, documentation preparation and responding to project‑specific queries.
• Monitor day‑to‑day RCC operations to ensure compliance with technical specifications and international best practice.
• Oversee proper RCC batching, transportation, placement, surface preparation, compaction, curing/protection and strength testing.
• Conduct required testing throughout RCC placement such as in‑place density testing, temperature monitoring, cylinder preparation and compressive strength testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the design and construction of RCC dams, including design, specification review, construction supervision and quality control.
• Chartered or Professional Engineer registration with an internationally recognised institution and membership of Samoa’s IPES.
